Alhaji Mahammadu Azonko, the Coordinating Director of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly, has called on secretaries to demonstrate a high sense of professionalism and discipline in the course of their duties.
This, he said, would streamline their activities and make them more effective and efficient when undertaking their duties.
Alhaji Azonko said this during an address to the Professional Secretaries Association of Ghana (PROSAG) as part of a five-day workshop being held at Koforidua.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: ‘’Secretaries: Empowered for Organizational Development’’.
The workshop seeks to create a broader understanding of the role of the secretary in deepening talent in the country and also bring to the fore the challenges that secretaries face in their respective organizations.
Mr Solomon Nobi Amanor, the Principal of Government Secretarial Schools, urged secretaries to learn to accept challenging tasks at the work place and equip themselves appropriately for the demands of their profession.
He urged them to develop their language competence and other phonological aspects of the English Language such as shorthand which is the core for every secretary.
He called on public and private institutions to provide the necessary modern equipments, logistics and facilities to enable secretaries work efficiently.
Ms Rosemary Nhyira Ackaah, the National President of PROSAG, said the position manned by secretaries requires that they stay abreast with current technological development by building their capacity to help in the development of their organizations.
She said if secretaries are well equipped with competences required in the discharge of their duties the negative notion about the profession will be erased.
Participants, drawn from all parts of the country, were taken through Information Technology (IT), Human Relations, Office Grooming, Career Management and housekeeping.
