A Former Director-General of Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority, Richard Anamoo has observed that demolishing several structures to construct the National Cathedral was a very senseless decision.

It would be recalled that in 2018, the Government began a demolition exercise to make way for the construction of a National Cathedral which saw some Judges receiving $168,000 (GHC800,000) for temporary accommodation.

The GHS800,000 temporary accommodation for the judges provided by the government was for 18 months.

During a one-on-one interview on Kingdom FM, Richard Anamoo indicated that the National Cathedral project is very unnecessary because the space could have been used for facilities like hospitals, a big shopping mall which can employ a lot of people or even an international conference center which will serve as a source of revenue for the government.

“The building of the National Cathedral is not necessary. Unfortunately, they just dug a pit. The question is what are the various variables? There are a lot of Churches in Ghana which are yet to be occupied.

The facility can be a hospital with underground parking, an international conference centre, a big mall that can even employ or even court facilities rather than building a cathedral.” He argued.

According to Richard Anamoo, he is against the building of the National Cathedral because it will serve no benefit to the country. He described the pulling down of the judges’ apartments and putting up the National Cathedral as senseless.

“I am terribly against the National Cathedral. It doesn’t make sense. It was wrong for the government to demolish public property to build a National Cathedral. It doesn’t make sense to destroy public property to build something that doesn’t give any benefit to the state.
