Defilement of 4-year-old: Don’t entertain any intervention – Speaker to Otiko

Speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye has charged Gender Minister, Otiko Afisa Djaba, to ensure that probe into the defilement of a 4-year-old girl at Assin Adadientem in the Central region is brought to its logical conclusion.

According to Prof Oquaye, the Minister should ensure the case is not truncated through underhand dealings and the influence of money.

Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, 28 February 2018, when the Minister briefed the House on the status of the defilement case, Prof Oquaye emphasised that there should be "no private, personal, official or whatever intervention to kill the case or settle it behind closed priest or chief can intervene”.

The Minister has been given a two-week grace period to report to parliament about the progress of the case.

Mother of the victim, Monica Nyarko, first reported to the chief of the community, however, the accused, whom the little girl gave his name as Kwabena, who lives in the community, was declared innocent.

His innocence, according to the chief, was the response of the gods hence, the inability to have the 17-year-old boy suspected to have carried out the crime punished.
