The Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has dismissed a viral statement, purportedly announcing that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has opened a portal for protocol enlistment and recruitment into the service.

The said statement reportedly claimed that recruitment was opened to eligible Ghanaians; directing interested applicants to apply.

However, in a sharp rebuttal, Dr Omane Boamah, has stated that no such recruitment is ongoing or being conducted by the GAF.

According to him, the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence would officially inform interested individuals and the general public if vacancies for recruitment into the service become available, urging the public to disregard the false statement.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is fake! We'll issue a formal statement when we advertise for recruitment and enlistment. Just stay tuned,” he wrote on his official Facebook page on August 5, 2025.

Dr Omane Boamah also provided an update on the military’s recruitment plans.

He stated that 12,000 people will be enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces over a three-year period.

Although, he did not provide a specific timeline for the recruitment exercise, he indicated that it would commence “very soon.”

“Recruitment and enlistment of 12,000 people into the Ghana Armed Forces over the next 3.5 years will start very soon,” he added.
