Death toll in Winneba - Accra road accident now 13

Gomoa-Dabenye C/R), Aug. 26, GNA - Thirteen people, mostly fishmongers from Apam, died in a motor accident on Thursday morning at Gomoa-Dabenye, near Buduata on the Winneba - Accra road.

Nine of them died on the spot and four others later at the Winneba Government Hospital, while 16 others, who received various degrees of injury, are on admission at the Hospital.

Mr Nicholas Gasu, Winneba District Police Commander, told Ghana News Agency at Gomoa-Dabenye, that Mercedes Benz bus driven by Joseph Adjei, which was travelling to Accra from Apam collided with an Abidjan bound bus. He said the accident occurred when Adjei, who was among the dead, attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead of him.

Some of the dead so far identified included Ama Amoanin, 52; Akua Sarsah, 21; John Amppiah, 60; Ama Aya, 52; Esi Tawiah, 50; Cecilia Ajetia, 54; Abena Ninbin, 60, and her three-year-old son Kofi Obosu. Ms Joyce Aidoo, Gomao District Chief Executive, delegation from the District Assembly and the Chief of Apam visited the injured at the Hospital.
