Deal with $100K saga – Rawlings to Akufo-Addo

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has charged President Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that the $100,000 ‘access fee’ saga is resolved.

Speaking at the 36th anniversary of the 31st December 1981 revolution in Ho on Sunday, he was emphatic that: “One cannot also overlook reports of official indiscretion in the cash for dinner seats affair”.

For him, it is not a matter that should be brushed aside and must be tackled to its logical conclusion.

The presidency said there was no wrongdoing in the $100,000 ‘access fee’ saga after it invited Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen to provide details on the matter.

But Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak described as a “complete cover-up”, claims by the presidency that there was no wrongdoing and demanded a parliamentary probe into the scandal.

Meanwhile Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, has recalled Members of Parliament from recess to enable the House consider a motion filed by the Minority with regards to the alleged extortion of the $100,000 from expatriate businessmen by the Trade Ministry during the Ghana Expatriate Business Awards held in Accra.

The lawmakers are expected to appear on the floor on Friday, January 5, 2018.
