Databank CEO slams FIFA General Secretary, Fatma Samoura

The Chief Executive Officer of Databank Group, Kojo Addae-Mensah has descended heavily on the General Secretary of FIFA, Fatma Samoura.

On Monday, August 13, FIFA wrote to the government of Ghana to withdraw its petition against the Ghana Football Association and issued an ultimatum of August 27.

Following the public airing of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas documentary dubbed ‘Number 12’ which exposed the rot in Ghana football, the government took the steps to dissolve the country’s football governing body.

Former president of the Ghan Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi was filmed using the name of the president of Ghana, Nana Addo to solicits deals.

However, an Accra High Court appointed the Registrar of Companies as the official liquidator of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on July 12, 2018.

The court took the decision after it granted an injunction application by the Attorney General to restrain the GFA and all it assigns from carrying out any official work.

However, the world football governing body has called on the government of Ghana to withdraw the court case against the GFA or face its wrath but the Liverpool staunch supporter says FIFA cannot decide for a country like Ghana.

“I was not able to sleep last night when I received a copy of the letter because I was not expecting this,” he told Asempa FM.

“FIFA cannot decide what Ghana have to do because we are a sovereign country.

“Even though I supported the country when they wanted to do reforms in our football but I never supported the call for liquidation.

“One person I am disappointed at is the FIFA General Secretary [Fatma Samoura]. How can she sign a letter like this?

“Does she know what is going on in our football? Somebody has been caught in a tape using the name of the president in soliciting deals and you write a letter to tell a sovereign state like Ghana with an ultimatum to withdraw the petition against Ghana Football Association.

“This shouldn’t have happened but FIFA as a body cannot decide for a country like Ghana,” he added.
