Dangme West Earmarks Free Zone Areas

Dodowa (G/A), Aug. 4, - The Dangme West District in the Greater Accra Region has earmarked five areas for the free zone programme. The areas are Dodowa-Ayikuma, Ayikuma-Doryimu, Dawhenya- Nyigenya, Dawhenya-Tema and Asutsuare-Junction-Ghana Jerusalem. Mr S.A. Kpabitey, the district chief executive, made this known at a meeting with chiefs, departmental heads and directors of private companies at Dodowa at the weekend. The meeting was to brief the chiefs and the heads on their role in the implementation of the free zone concept and to stress the readiness of the district to make land available to investors. Enterprises set up in the free zone area are required by law to export 70 per cent of their goods. Mr Kpabitey told the meeting that the district holds a trump card for development and therefore urged the chiefs in particular to cooperate in winning investors for the district. For a start, Mr Kpabitey said 4,000 acres of land had been released to the Greater Accra Regional Ministry of Food and Agriculture for investment purposes. He advised the chiefs to see the investment potentials of the district as ''a golden opportunity'' for development and a tool to provide employment opportunities in the areas allocated for the free zone programme. Mr J.A. Dampson, deputy regional director of Agriculture, hailed the release of the land and hoped that any investment made on it would benefit the district.
