The Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowura Seidu Kelly I, has imposed a temporary ban on the sale of khebab (popularly known as chichinga) in Damongo township, following an alarming rise in goat and sheep theft in the Savannah Regional capital, according to Metro TV news report on September 19, 2025.

According to the report, the ban comes in response to reports that stolen livestock are being slaughtered and sold to unsuspecting butchers and food vendors.

One recent case involved two brothers, Gafaru and Mohammed, together with an accomplice named Nnabaali, who were apprehended after stealing and butchering a sheep belonging to a local resident.

Eyewitnesses say the trio was caught with the freshly slaughtered animal and only police intervention prevented them from being lynched by an angry mob.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to supplying stolen animals to a popular butcher, identified as Achiiba, who has since fled the town and remains on the run.

The development has heightened community concern, with many residents demanding swift investigations and firm action against all those involved to serve as a deterrent to others.
