A 35-year-old Italian returnee has been isolated by authorities at the Damango Government Hospital in the Savannah Region after he allegedly showed symptoms of COVID-19.

Samples of the man has also been taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further assessment.

The returnee is believed to have arrived in the country on February 28.

Patients in the male ward of the hospital were moved to the female ward to make way for the returnee to be isolated in the ward.

A nurse attendant who spoke on grounds of anonymity disclosed the symptoms shown by the returnee were similar to that of a covid-19 patient, but added that would have to be proven by a medical test.

Residents in the area had suspected the returnee after days of observed cough and reported the issue to some opinion leaders, including the Municipal Chief Executive who convinced him to report to the hospital.

Our Savannah Regional correspondent, Christopher Amoako , who has been following the issue reports resident say they now live in fear.
