Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed, has attributed the severe flooding in parts of his constituency to sustained heavy rainfall and an overwhelmed Weija Dam system.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, on May 27, 2026, the MP described the situation as dire, noting that over a thousand homes have already been submerged, leaving many residents stranded and distressed.

According to him, many affected families, including his assistant, have lost nearly all their belongings, with only a few managing to salvage little or nothing amid the devastation.
“It’s the cumulative effect of the rain, because a lot of the water comes into the dam. We have areas in Weija like Away, Ash bread, Yarboman, Tetegu, among others, that have been badly hit,” he said.
He explained that the dam is currently overflowing and operating at a critical level, making the situation difficult to control.
“I’m just leaving the dam. The dam is now overfilled. It’s going virtually at the brim. You can’t do anything,” he noted.
The flooding has caused significant displacement and property destruction in the area, with residents struggling to cope with the impact of the rising waters.
