Dagbon matters: Tension mounts on Yendi

There is uneasy calm in Yendi Township of the Northern Region where the final funeral service of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II was supposed to have begun today (Friday).

Two persons have so far died while several others injured as a result of sporadic gunshots firing from all angles.

The Minister for Chieftaincy Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi who was there with members of the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) unceremoniously left Yendi in a helicopter to Tamale to restrategize and reinforce security personnel on the ground.

In the wake of the skirmishes, the media and other strangers there sought refuge at the Yendi District Police Command.

The numerical strength of security personnel on the ground is inadequate.

The cause of the renewed violence is yet to be established.

One person was shot dead in a similar situation on Thursday, January 10.

The unfortunate latest developments have halted the funeral service of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II which was scheduled for January January 4 to 18, 2019.
