Dadieso residents block section of Accra-Kumasi Highway over abandoned gas tanker

Residents say the tanker poses serious risk to their safety and therefore requires urgent attention Residents say the tanker poses serious risk to their safety and therefore requires urgent attention

The residents of Dadieso, a town near Kwahu, came together in a display of shared concern and blocked the Accra-Kumasi highway in protest on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Their action was prompted by an abandoned gas tanker that had been left unattended for almost three days, posing a significant risk to the area.

According to videos circulating on social media, the tanker is partially submerged in a bush with its head detached and gas still inside. The precarious situation has local residents worried about a potential explosion.

In an effort to draw attention to their perilous situation, the residents resorted to using wooden materials to obstruct the flow of traffic along the crucial highway connecting Accra and Kumasi.

In response to the urgent circumstances, the Ghana National Fire Service has been called to the location to safely relocate the gas tanker to prevent any potential disaster.

An eyewitness account highlighted the gravity of the situation: "The road at Dadieso, on the Kwahu side, is completely blocked. No vehicles can pass to or from Kumasi. The community is on edge because a massive gas tanker has toppled over, and for three days, there has been no action from the Fire Service to address it. The fear of a gas explosion is palpable, hence the blockade."
