DStv cuts subscription prices in Ghana

The new packages take effect on November 5, 2026 The new packages take effect on November 5, 2026

DStv subscribers in Ghana will pay less for television content from November 5, 2026, following a new pricing structure that introduces a GH¢50 entry-level package and reduces the cost of accessing football to GH¢250 monthly.

Announced on Monday, October 26, by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and MultiChoice Ghana, the new structure replaces six existing packages with four options: Starter at GH¢50, Select at GH¢100, Sports at GH¢250 and Ultimate at GH¢570.

MultiChoice Ghana Country CEO and Managing Director Alex Okyere said the changes represented a permanent restructuring rather than a promotional offer.

“They are also the reason the details of a television package matter. Those new packs have everything, everything and something for everyone at unbelievable prices,” he said.

The Starter package will offer 90 channels, including Africa Magic Epic, Novelas Plus, Cartoon Network, M-Net Movies, G-World, TV3 and UTV.

“At 50 Ghana cedis, you have all this content,” Okyere said, adding that the company wanted every household to have the opportunity to watch DStv.

The Select package, priced at GH¢100, will offer 123 channels, including M-Net Movies, Africa Magic Showcase, CNN and WWE. Okyere said it offered an alternative to the previous Family package, which cost GH¢188.

“This pack is even better than Family, but 100 Ghana cedis,” he said.

The Sports package, at GH¢250 monthly, will provide access to DStv’s full football offering, including the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1.

“For all football lovers, we are introducing a pack called Sports. This will have 100% of our football proposition, 100%,” Okyere said. “Any football we have will be on this pack.”

The price is GH¢313, or about 55.6 per cent, below the previous Compact price of GH¢563 cited by Okyere. The package costs approximately GH¢8.33 daily.

The Ultimate package will cost GH¢570, down from the previous Premium price of GH¢854, a reduction of GH¢284, or about 33.3 per cent. It includes premium sports such as golf, Formula One, tennis, MotoGP and rugby.

“The best DStv has to offer for just 570 Ghana cedis a month,” Okyere said.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations said government engagement with MultiChoice began in June 2025 to make television content more affordable.

He described the Sports package as particularly important to football-loving Ghanaians.

He added that subscribers who previously paid about GH¢850 to GH¢875 for premium content could save more than GH¢500 monthly by switching to Sports.

The minister also said government planned to begin a major anti-piracy crackdown from November 5, subject to the necessary clearance following an opinion from the Attorney-General. He argued that affordable subscriptions would make legitimate content more accessible.

He further disclosed that a committee had been established to review DStv prices in response to exchange-rate movements and consumer preferences.

The new packages take effect on November 5, 2026, with government expecting the lower prices to improve affordability and support efforts to combat television piracy.
