DRIP Secretariat mourns loss of eight national leaders in Z-9 helicopter crash

The DRIP Secretariat has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In an official statement signed by the National Coordinator, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandapuye On August 7, 2025, the secretariat conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the government, the legislature, the Ghana Armed Forces and the people of Ghana.

“The DRIP Secretariat is deeply saddened by the devastating tragedy... resulting in the loss of eight esteemed lives,” the statement read.

The eight individuals, who were traveling on national assignment, included Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director of NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Bafeme Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

The secretariat acknowledged the immense contributions of the fallen leaders and officers, describing them as patriots who died in the line of duty.

“They were on their way to perform a national duty and tragically died in their line of duty,” the statement noted.

“No words can bring sufficient comfort to the affected families. However, we take solace in the hope of a glorious reunion on the day of resurrection. May the gentle souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”
