DCOP Atingane unfit to be MTTD director – Brong Ahafo Youth

DCOP Maxwell Atingane, the outgoing Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, is not suitable for the role of Director of the Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Andrew Frimpong, leader of the Asunafo Youth Association, has said.

According to him, during his stay in the Brong Ahafo Region, DCOP Atingane watched unconcerned as several criminal acts, especially politically motivated crimes, were perpetrated by unscrupulous people.

DCOP Atingane has been reassigned to the MTTD in the recent reshuffle of the top hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service undertaken by new Inspector General of Police David Asante Apeatu.

But the Asunafo youth believe that in the interest of Ghana, he should not be offered that role because he underperformed as regional commander.

Speaking to Accra News on Monday February 13, Mr Frimpong said: “He could not deal with the miscreants in the Brong Ahafo Region, therefore cannot be given this new role. You recall that during the district assembly elections, some young men went on rampage and vandalised several properties yet nothing was done about it.

“In Asunafo South, people were terrorised by some gun-wielding men and yet under his watch nothing happened to the perpetrators. And so if he could not manage only the Brong Ahafo Region, how can he manage the MTTD.

“We need someone who is very competent, disciplined, and firm to handle the MTTD because of accidents on our roads. We strongly believe that DCOP Atingane is not fit to head the MTTD and so we are appealing to the president and the IGP to withdraw him. Ghana will collapse if he is given the job.”
