The Defense for Children International (DCI) Ghana, has been selected to speak on child protection and related issues at a United Nations (UN) political platform in New York.

Dr George Oppong, Executive Director of DCI Ghana, said his organisation was selected alongside PLAN Ghana and the Ghana NGO Coalition on the Rights of the Child, to form an alliance to present issues affecting children in Ghana at the forum in August, this year.

He made this known at the 2019 general assembly meeting of DCI, held in Kumasi to take stock of activities in the past year and device strategies for the ensuing year.

Dr. Oppong said among the achievements of the organisation in last year were the establishment of youth advocacy groups and the champions of change project.

He said the youth advocacy consisted of selected youth and children who were trained as representatives to speak for their colleagues on issues of rights, freedoms and protection.

The champions of change involved the selection and training of progressive traditional and religious leaders, committed to the cause of children in their communities.

Dr. Oppong said DCI would continue to work hard this year to develop the appropriate and right advocacy tools that would help it amplify its voice locally and internationally.

Nana Akomanyi Essandoh V, President of DCI, said plans were far advanced to train abused and deprived children to know their rights and defend themselves.
