DCE denies receiving double salaries

Koforidua, Nov. 11, GNA - Mr Samuel Asamoah, the District Chief Executive for Kwahu East, has denied reports that he had been receiving double salary.

Mr Asamoah told a press conference at Koforidua on Thursday that the reports sought to tarnish his reputation.

He said he was a tutor at the Abetifi Presbyterian Senior High School until his appointment that took effect from May 2009.

Mr Asamoah said because his confirmation went into a second round, he continued to teach until he was confirmed and got his appointment letter that took effect from May 2009.

He said after receiving his appointment letter as DCE, he commenced the process of conversion from teaching to his new status.

Consequently his former Headmaster was duly informed to initiate the necessary steps to delete his name from the payroll and also discussed it with the District Director of Education for the similar action to be taken by his outfit.

Mr Asamoah said while the conversion process was on going, he received salaries for May, June and July 2009 from the Ghana Education Service (GES). He said as at the time he was filling his IPPD form for his new appointment, he attached copies of his previous pay slips to the Controller and Accountant General to indicate any overlap that might have occurred.

Mr Asamoah said since it was conversion from one public sector to another, his staff Identification (ID) under GES was maintained for his new appointment, so he could not have collected double salaries with the same staff ID.

Mr Asamoah said when his salary for his new appointment started coming in August 2009, the payments made in May, June and July 2009 under the GES were all deducted as salary arrears paid to him.
