DCE cuts sod for construction of school block

Abesewa (Ash), April 2, GNA - Mr Anthony Kusi, Ahafo-Ano South District Chief Executive, at the weekend cut the sod for work to begin on a new six-classroomed primary school block for the people of Abesewa.

The District Assembly is funding the project estimated at 95 million cedis through its common fund. The DCE said the new block had become necessary as result of a severe rainstorm that hit the town early this year, which destroyed more than 30 houses and all three basic schools in the town.

The assembly is also working on the other two affected schools. Mr Kusi said the assembly is committed to ensure the success of the government's Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE), and called for co-operation and support from the people. Mr Yaw Anning, Presiding Member, asked the people to take interest in government's development programmes to improve their living standards.

Mr Frimpong Manso, assemblyman for the area, commended the assembly for its efforts to rehabilitate the schools. Nana Subin Kankam Amerado II, Abesewahene, said they welcomed the assistance from the assembly and pledged the people's support for the contractor to enable him to complete the project on schedule.
