DCE agitations: My accusers are ‘cockroaches’ – Naabu

Daniel Bugri Naabu Daniel Bugri Naabu

The Northern regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has refuted accusations that he took a GHS100,000 bribe to convince President Akufo-Addo to appoint Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as District Chief Executive for Savelugu in the Northern Region.

“The people who think that I, Daniel Bugri Naabu, will take money to recommend to the President of the Republic of Ghana to appoint a DCE, I pity them… They are cockroaches, human beings will not think like that,” he retorted in an interview with Emefa Apawu on Class FM’s 505 news programme.

He explained that he was able to turn down a bribe of GHS 300,000 cash and several cars offered by former President John Mahama to spew false allegations against Mr Akufo-Addo and wondered why he would accept a meagre GHS100,000 from a woman who only an “accountant at Yendi Hospital”.

Over 300 youth went on rampage against the appointment of the new DCE, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, on Wednesday April 26. They destroyed properties at the party’s office, burnt lorry tyres, and attempted to chase away some police officers who were there to restore order.

According to the youth, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu is an alien. They alleged that she played no role in the NPP’s 2016 campaign that brought the party to power.

Subsequently, some of the youth accused Mr Naabu of accepting bribes and ensuring that Hajia Seidu won.

But Mr Naabu insisted that he was not the one in charge of appointing DCEs.

“My duty is to file names and submit to the president and the president is the only person who can appoint. I have no power,” he added.

“I don’t know anything about that woman’s appointment; my appropriate choice was not accepted, similar to Sagnarigu”.
