DANIDA gives vehicle for sanitation purposes

Accra, Sept. 18, GNA - The Danish Development Agency (DANIDA) on Monday donated a pick-up vehicle valued at 23,000 dollars (excluding tax) to the Environmental, Health and Sanitation Unit of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment (MLGRDE). The vehicle is to be used by the unit for monitoring and evaluation purposes in the discharge of its duties across the nation. Mr Ole K. Jensen, Water Sector Advisor, who presented the vehicle on behalf of DANIDA, expressed the hope that the vehicle would help alleviate the plight of the staff in the monitoring and evaluation of sanitation problems.

Urging the staff to take care of the vehicle, he said his outfit would continue to monitor its use to ensure that it was used for the purpose for which it was given.

"We are making this second donation today, because the Environmental, Health and Sanitation Unit of MLGRDE has proved that they are capable of taking care of the vehicle based on the monitoring of the one donated last year," he said.

Mr. Kwabena Agyekum Dankwa, Acting Chief Director of the Ministry, who received the vehicle on behalf of the Ministry, thanked DANIDA for its support and promised to ensure that the vehicle was used for the purpose for which it was given.

Staff of the Environmental, Health and Sanitation Unit presented Mr Jensen with a smock.
