Curfew on Bawku Municipality and its Environs

Accra, April 2, GNA - The Minister for the Interior, Mr Martin A.B.K Amidu has on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument imposed a curfew on the Bawku Municipality and its immediate environs.

The weeklong curfew takes effect from Friday, April 2. This was contained in a press release, issued by the Ministry and signed by the Minister of the Interior, Mr Martin Amidu. The release said the curfew hours for the Bawku Municipality are now from 1600 hours to 0600 hours each day. It said government continues to appeal to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the good people in the area to exercise maximum restraint in the face of provocation and to ensure that sustainable peace returns to the area soon.

It said government is determined to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the area at all times and urged the people of the area to cooperate with the Security Agencies in the performance of their duties. "Government, meanwhile would like to reiterate that there is a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality and its immediate environs (Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga and Zoasi) from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons, and that any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted", the statement said. 2 April, 10
