Accra, Sept. 8, GNA - Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of the Interior, has renewed the curfews imposed on the Bawku Municipality and Gushiegu township and their immediate environs for another week with effect from Monday, September 15. A statement signed by the Minister said the action was on the advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security Councils (REGSEC).

The curfew hours for Bawku remain unchanged at 2200 hours to 0400 hours each day. However, the curfew for Gushiegu has been reviewed from 2100 hours to 0400 each day. It said government was also appealing to the people to continue to use the Holy Ramadan to reflect on the way forward to lasting peace in the areas.

"Government wishes to assure all Ghanaians that every effort is being made to ensure that peace returns to the effected areas soon, so that the people can live normal lives and promote their socio-economic development."

Meanwhile, Government has reiterated that the ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipal Area, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga and Zoosi townships and their environs and Gushiegu township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon still remains in force, and any person found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.
