Cuban Profs to teach at USD

Seven Cuban professors are expected in the country soon to teach at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Medical School in Tamale.

The arrival of the seven would complete the offer of 11 professors made by the Cuban authorities during the Ghana-Cuban Joint Commission for Co-operation held in Accra in April, 2004.

A statement from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and signed by the public relations officer, Mr Dan Osman Mwin, said the decision to release the professionals to come and teach at the UDS was an outcome of the 13th session of the commission held in Havana, Cuba, from April 3 to April 7, 2006 and attended by the minister for health, Major Courage Quashigah (rtd).

It said both Ghana and Cuba agreed to start a project on malarial control and other mosquito-transmitted diseases.

The statement said a comprehensive project proposal covering malaria control in all parts of the country was submitted by the Cuban team for study by the Ghanaian authorities.
