Criminal In Life And Death Race With Police.

A Police escort and a 29 year-old suspect, Nuhu Musah recently ran a 200-metre race at Awutu-Beraku in the Central Region, in the full glare of the public and received a standing ovation for their Olympic exploits even though no awards were presented to the two sprinters. To the Police-man General Constable Owusu-Ansah, it was a race ran for fear of losing his job whilst to the accused, it was a life and death affair.

It all begun when pandemonium broke out at the Awutu-Beraku Community Tribunal last week, when Nuhu, who was standing trial for two charges of unlawful entry and stealing, attempted to escape through a window.

This occurred after the tribunal Chairman, J.E. Wilson had pronounced the first sentence andwas just to do so for the second offence for the other charge. The accused, alarmed at the grim prospects of facing prison life, simply jumped through thewindow and showed a clean pair of heels.

He was arrested during the hot chase by his Police Escort with the help of some people on the Court Premises. This was after he had assaulted the Police-officer and bitten-off his middle finger which led to profuse bleeding and his subsequent admission at the Kasoa Health Post.

Interestingly, when Musah was re-arrested,theAwutu-Beraku police Identified him as a wanted hardened criminal . He had used the name Kwesi Tetteh in a similar case sometime in June but managed to escape from Police Custody.

He has meanwhile denied involvement in any theft with the name Kwesi Tetteh. His denial could however not save him as his finger-prints confirmed that he was the same person with different names.

He is currently at the Winneba Prisons to serve 18 months jail term in hard labour for the offence and would be arraigned before the same Tribunal on Monday 17th December, for the other offences and the attempted escape from lawful custody.
