The Electoral Commission of Ghana has outlined modalities for the upcoming referendum for the creation of six new regions.

This follows the maturity of the CI that seeks to regulate the conduct of the elections.

The Commission will from Sunday 2nd December, 2018 to Thursday 6th December, 2018 accept applications for Proxy voters and those wishing to transfer their votes from other districts within the country to those in the proposed new regions.

The Deputy Chair in charge of operations, at the Commission, Samuel Tettey disclosed this at a press briefing which ended a short while ago.

This comes on the heels of the Supreme Court verdict that gave clearance to the Electoral Commission to hold its referendum in selected areas earmarked for the creation of new regions after the SC’s dismissal of a suit seeking to challenge the decision of the EC to only allow residents in the affected areas to vote in the referendum.

According to the Justices of the Supreme Court, there was no genuine or real issue for interpretation as the constitution states unambiguously, the discretionary power given to the Electoral Commission.
