Court strikes out alleged robbery case

An Accra Circuit Court on Friday struck out a case involving a Mason, Daniel Abbey who was alleged to have conspired with one other now at large and robbed one Sunuh Joan.

The court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, struck out the case for want of prosecution, saying since Daniel was remanded on January 29, the prosecution has failed to amass evidence to commence trial.

Daniel was said to have conspired and robbed Joan of her Itel tablet mobile phone and its power bank worth GH? 750.00, one ladies hand bag, valued at GH? 20.00 and an amount of GH? 100.00.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charge but was remanded by the court.

Earlier the prosecutor, Superintendent Kweku Bampah told the court that the complainant, Joan is a cleaner and lives at Dzorwulu, while Daniel is a Mason living at Ayigbe Town-Dzorwulu.

He said on January 15, at about 0520 hours at Shiashi, Daniel together with his accomplice, armed with a knife, and an iron rod, attacked and robbed the complainant.

Supt Bempah said they hit the complainant’s head with the iron rod and also stabbed her right arm with the knife and bolted.

After the attack, the complainant attended the hospital and was treated and discharged on the same day, and lodged a complaint at the Airport Police Station.

He told the court that on January 25, the complainant identified Daniel who was arrested and detained at the Kotobabi Police Station, and later transferred to the Airport police for investigations.

Daniel admitted the offence in his caution statement.
