Court remands motor rider over alleged robbery

A 26-year-old motor rider has been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court in an alleged robbery case.

Osman Inusah pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery and robbery.

He will re-appear on April 27.

Five other accomplices are now at large.

Police Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo told the Court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh that Robert Kwame Gyawu-Kyem, the main prosecution witness is a mobile phone seller at Kokomlemle near City Lights in Accra.

The prosecution said on March 24, this year, at about 2100hours, Gyawu-Kyem was checking on his proceeds for the day, when his wife, another witness, noticed Inusah and the others spying them from their motorbikes.

She quickly alerted her husband and they decided to leave the shop.

While packing the wife saw them hiding at the edge of a nearby building.

Gyawu-Kyem and the wife left the shop with the man carrying a leather bag containing GH¢10,200.00, two I-phones valued GH¢2,000.00, Nokia C2 valued GH¢200.00 and some personal belongings.

When they got out of the shop the robbers rushed on Gyawu-Kyem and hit him with a stone and snatched the bag, during the struggle, GYawu-Kyem’s wife called for help, which drew the attention of other witnesses who gave the suspects a hot chase.

During the melee, one of the witnesses shot Inusah on his left shoulder and he fell from the motorbike he was riding.

Inusah was arrested and taken to the police hospital.
