Court remands man for stealing and fines receiver

The Winneba District Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Alexander Oworae has remanded a 27 year old unemployed in prison custody for stealing Gas Cylinder Bottles and Axe Galaxy Mobile Phone valued over 600.00 Ghana Cedis.

Daniel Annobil, pleaded not guilty to the charge and will re-appear before the court on 16th October, 2015.

The Court also slapped a total fine of 180.00 Ghana Cedis on one Alice Batcha, a 32 year old Seamstress based in Winneba who was charged for unlawful receiving.

Prosecution Police Inspector Peter Agbelie narrating the fact of the case to the Court said complainant of the case is Madam Patricia Marfo a native of Offinso in Ashanti and a cooked rice seller at Copa Junction in Winneba, while the accused is a native of Winneba and Alice Batcha, a native of Somanya and a business woman.

The Prosecution said in August, 2015, the complainant detected that her five gas cylinder bottles, threes bags of rice and Axe Galaxy Mobile Phone was stolen at her restaurant at Copa Junction in Winneba.

According to Inspector Agbelie on 26th August, 2015 at about 2.30 A.M, the complainant spotted the accused person “Daniel Annobil” stealing cooked rice from her restaurant and she raised an alarm that attracted people living around the area, but in their attempt to apprehend him, he managed to escaped.

Inspector Agbelie said the complainant reported the matter to the police and in the course of investigations Annobil was arrested at his hideout in Winneba.

He said in the accused person’s cautioned statement, he stated that he took only two gas cylinder bottles from the complainant’s restaurant and mentioned Alice Batcha as the one who bought one of the bottles.

The Prosecution said the accused person later led the police to retrieve one of the gas cylinder from Batcha and she was arrested.

He said in Batcha’s cautioned statement, she admitted to have bought one gas cylinder bottle from the accused person at the cost of thirty Ghana Cedis.

Inspector Agbelie informed the Court that Annobil later led the police to retrieve another one cylinder bottles from a Gas Filling Station in Winneba.

The prosecution said the accused person told the police that he sold the phone to someone at Sankro a community in Effutu Municipality at the cost of Fifty Ghana Cedis and led them to the place but they could not find the person who bought it.

The Items retrieved has since been handed over to the complainant per the directives of the Court.
