Court remands farmer for defiling an orphan

A circuit court at Akim Swedru has remanded in prison custody a 50-year farmer for allegedly defiling a 10-year old girl for one year.

Kwadwo Yeboah, from Oda Nkwanta in the Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region, was said to be abusing the class three pupil who has lost both parents and was staying with him.

Detective Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong that the girl’s grandmother lodged a complaint to the police about the case but the accused fled from his house, until January, this year when he resurfaced and was arrested, and subsequently denied the offence during interrogation.

He said the crime was detected when the pale looking girl was rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital, where the victim confided in her grandmother about her violation.**
