Court remands chainsaw operator for murdering wife over eggs

The circuit court in Tarkwa has remanded a 25-year-old chainsaw operator, Robert Tawiah, who allegedly murdered his wife, Ama Jejeba, 26, at Dompim Pepesa in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality over missing eggs.

His plea was not taken and will re-appear before the court on February 28.

Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Nana Friam is the Abusuapanyin of Dompim Pepesa and a relative to the deceased, who lives in the same vicinity with the accused.

He said on Wednesday January 30th this year at about 8:00 pm, a misunderstanding ensued between the couple who are married with three children, over some missing eggs.

According to the Prosecutor, while the two were exchanging words, the accused became offended pounced on the deceased and subjected her to severe beatings but in the process she fell and hit her head against a gutter.

Detective Amponsah said the deceased was rushed to the Simpa Health Centre for treatment but was pounced dead on arrival.

He said the body had since been deposited at the Tarkwa Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
