An Accra High Court has ordered the remand of the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, into police custody after he failed to surrender his passport as required under his bail conditions in a pending criminal case.

Several reports indicate that the court revoked his bail after establishing that he had not complied with the directive.

Abronye DC, however, was not present in court when the ruling was delivered.

The NPP regional chairman is standing trial on one count of publication of false news and one count of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.

The charges stem from alleged false statements he is said to have made about a Circuit Court judge.

Abronye had previously been remanded following his arraignment before being granted bail, which included a condition that he deposit his passport with the court.

His failure to comply with that requirement led the court to revoke his bail and return him to police custody.

Meanwhile, the substantive criminal case continues before the Circuit Court, where the false publication matter is still being heard.
