Court orders closure of drinking bar

The Adjabeng District Magistrate Court One, presided over by Mr Justice Isaac Addo, has ordered the immediate closure of J.B.C Drinking Bar at Odorkor Busia Junction for noise-making.

The court held that until the drinking bar was confined, and appropriate gadgets installed to absorb the noise it makes, or was re-located to a non-residential area, its activities must cease immediately.

Prosecuting, Miss Linda Kumbonu of the Accra Metropolitan Health Department, told the court that Mr Kusi Dacosta, owner of the bar was summoned to the court on November 18, 2013, on a charge of excessive noise-making in a residential area.

She said, on December 19, 2013, the court cautioned him to stop disturbing people in the area, by operating his facility within the acceptable limit of noise, as contained in the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA)and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) Bye-Laws.

Miss Kumbonu said Mr Dacosta was asked to signed an undertaking not to operate beyond 10.00pm each day, but he violated the court order, and went ahead to disturb his neighbours. She added that he still operates the bar from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, and for that reason, the court had no other alternative than to close the spot.
