Court jails porter six months for stealing

A Circuit Court at Goaso, presided over by Mr. Osei Kwame Gyamfi, has sentenced a 25-year-old porter, Alhassan Grumah, to six months imprisonment in hard labour on his own plea for stealing.

Police Chief Inspector James Asamoah, prosecuting told the court that the complainant Mr. Kwadwo Awaro is a carpenter residing at Manshia a suburb of Goaso whilst the convict is a porter.

He said at dawn on September 17, the complainant who woke up to urinate but failed to lock his door, detected that his mobile phone as well as that of his wife, his slippers and GH?30 cash was missing.

Chief Inspector Asamoah said the complainant alerted the neighbourhood and on September 21, the convict called a neighbour a lady with the complainant’s SIM card and proposed love to her.

The prosecutor said the lady who knew the complainant’s mobile number accepted the proposal and informed the complainant about the move.

He said on September 26, Grumah called the lady the second time and asked her to prepare banku and okro stew pending his journey to Tepa, where he claimed he resides.

The prosecutor said the Tepa police was alerted and the convict was traced to a chop bar where he was waiting for his new found lover and was arrested.

During the time of the arrest, Grumah was using one of the stolen mobile phones and wearing a jeans trousers belonging to a co-tenant of the complainant.

He said GH?40 was found on the convict and during interrogation he admitted the offence and stated that he had sold one of the phones to an unknown person for GH?20.
