An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Eric Addo, a driver, to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.
The convict is also to serve an additional 15 years for conspiracy to commit crime. All are to run concurrently.
Eric was already serving a 15-year jail term at the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison for a similar offence.
Ibrahim Ali, an accomplice to Eric, has also been sentenced in absentia to 15 years for robbery and 15 years for conspiracy to commit crime, since he jumped bail.
Chief Inspector K. Adu earlier told the Court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri that the complainant in the case is a driver.
He said the complainant was on his usual rounds, when the convicts engaged his services.
He said on January 1, 2013, at about 0100 hours, Eric, who has positioned himself opposite the Vodafone office at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, engaged the service of the complainant.
The Prosecution said when the car got to Odo rice, a popular restaurant in Accra, Ali joined the car and the complainant was asked to drive to Nima, Madina, Adenta and finally back to Nima.
Chief Inspector Adu said when they got to the Egypt Air office opposite the Total filing station on the Ring road at about 0230 hours, the convicts ordered him to stop, where Eric put off the engine of the car and removed the ignition key.
He said when the complainant started screaming and sensing danger, they pushed him out of the car and they drove away to Ashiaman, where a prospective buyer was on standby.
βAt Ashiaman, they parked the car in front of the police station and called the buyer, who faked interest in buying the car,β he added.
He said it was at that moment that the buyer informed the police and in the cause of buying, they were arrested.
