Court imprisons a labourer for stealing seedlings

The Winneba Magistrate Court, has sentenced a 29 year- old Labourer to three months imprisonment for stealing sweet pepper seedlings valued GH¢ 800.00.

Kweku Atuobi a native of Winneba pleaded guilty.

Prosecution Inspector Peter Agbelie to the court presided over by Mr Alexander Oworae that Mr Charles Buabeng a farmer, the complainant is resident of Winneba.

He said during the month of April, the complainant nursed sweet pepper seedlings close to his farm and in the course of transplanting them he detected that a lot of them have been stolen.

The Prosecution said on June 2, the complainant had a hint that Atuobi the convict was offering some seedlings for sale.

He said the complainant confronted the convict’s wife who confirmed that the husband brought pepper seedlings to the house.

According to Inspector Agbelie later, when the complainant confronted the convict he could not explain how he how he got the seedlings and he was arrested and handed him over to the police.

The prosecution said during investigation Atuobi confessed the offence and led the police to the scene of the crime where he demonstrated how he stole the seedlings.
