Court fines farmer for death threat

Ajumako (C/R), June 24, GNA - Yaw Atobrah, a farmer from Breman Asiam, a villagfe in Ajumako-Enyam district, has been sentenced to a fine of 300,000 cedis, a compensation of 200,000 cedis to his ex-wife, Madam Ama Gyawaah and a bound to be of good behaviour or in default six months imprisonment for threat of death and escape from lawful custody. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced on his own plea, by the court, presided over by Mr Asmah Akwesi Asiedu

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Emmanuel Akorli, narrating the fact of the case said that, Madam Ama Gyawaah, the complainant is a former wife of Yaw Atobrah with whom they have four children. He said due to the behaviour of the accused person, the marriage have been dissolved by the families of both sides. Chief Inspector Akorli said that on April 2 , at about 1700 hours, the accused person met the ex-wife in town and demanded 60 million cedis out of an amount of 160 million cedis she owed him. The complainant explained to him that, she had no money on her at that time

This infuriated the accused person and he attacked the complainant who threw pebbles from catapult at her and also drew a cutlass but with the help of people around the complainant was rescued, he said. He added that the matter was reported to the police and with the help of night volunteers the accused was traced to his hideout, arrested and detained at Nkwamtamum police station.

The next morning when he was being escorted from cells to empty human waste, the accused abandoned the container and took to his heels. He was chased and re-arrested by the police and put before court.
