Akim Oda (E/R), June 10, GNA - The Akim Oda Magistrate Court in the Birim Central Municipality, has ordered Adamu Issaka, a driver to pay a total of GH¢1,900, for knocking down a pedestrian without due diligence.
The court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor imposed a fine of GH¢400 on Issaka, and an additional GH¢1,500 as compensation to the vic= tim,Madam Mary Essilifie.
Issaka, who pleaded guilty to careless, inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm, would serve 18 months prison term in hard labour, in default.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Detective Inspector Kingsley Antwi said Issaka was a professional driver who lived at Akim Oda.
He said at around 2030 hours on February 19, last year, Issaka was driving towards the Oda Lorry Park close to the Post Office round-about, when he knocked the victim at a section of the road near the Timber Market, where she was crossing the way.
Inspector Issaka said the victim was rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital where she was referred to the St Joseph Hospital at Koforidua.
