Court fines Sampler for assaulting lover

A sampler working with ABA mining company in Tarkwa, Ibrahim Iddrisu, has been fined 600 Ghana cedis by a Tarkwa circuit court for intentionally and unlawfully causing harm to his girl friend and her friend.

Iddrisu, who pleaded guilty, would also pay a sum of 2,500 Ghana cedis to the complainant to enable him undergo surgery on the affected fingers.

The accused will be sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour if he fails to provide the stated money to the complainant.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that, the complainant is a barber and resides at Lay-out, a suburb of Tarkwa.

According to Inspector Paddy, on Tuesday August 28, at about 11:55 am, one Esther Boadi, whom the accused alleged to be his lover was having a meal with the complainant and a friend in the complainant’s room.

He said the accused suddenly appeared in the complainant’s room and subjected Esther and her friend to slaps and severe beating.

The Prosecutor said the complainant could not stand the act of the accused and tried to pushed him out of his room but in the process, Iddrisu bit part of his right fingers off.

Inspector Paddy said after the act, the accused escaped from the scene and went into hiding.

He said the complainant then reported the matter to the Tarkwa Police where he was issued with a medical form to seek treatment.

The Prosecutor said the accused person was arrested later and after investigation, he was charged with the offense.
