Court defers sentence of alleged robber

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday deferred the sentence of one Samuel Daklu who was arraigned for attempted robbery and causing unlawful harm to one Judith Kane Diedera.

Samuel pleaded guilty to the charge of causing harm and told the court that it was not his intention to rob the complainant. He however pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy.

The court, presided over by Mrs Abena Adjin Doku Oppong therefore convicted him on his own plea on the charge of causing harm but deferred sentence and remanded the accused person into police custody to reappear on January 24.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Sgt Mabel Atsu told the court that the complainant Judith, a businesswoman resides at Agbogba, while the accused person Samuel is unemployed lives at Adenta.

She said on December 30, 2016, at about 1200 hours, the complainant after having dinner with a friend at the Golden Tulip Hotel, came to a filling station opposite the hotel to pick a taxi back home.

She told the court that, whiles waiting for the taxi, Samuel approached her, hit snatch her and handbag, but the complainant screaming for help.

Sgt Atsu said the accused person took to his heels, but a taxi driver and other passers by gave him a hot chase and finally arrested him and handed him over to the police.

She said the complainant who had sustained a cut on the forehead was issued with a medical form to attend hospital, and the accused was cautioned to that effect.
