Collins Arhin, a 25 year-old farmer, has been granted GHc3,000.00 bail with a surety, by the Tarkwa District Court II for attempting to rape a trader at Dompim Pepesa in the Tarkwa Nsueam municipality.

He pleaded not guilty to attempted rape, unlawful entry and threat of death.

The accused person will re-appear before the Court on September 28.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman told the Court, presided over by Madam Justice Gifty Cudjoe, that the complainant, Madam Evelyn Ghansah and the accused person reside in the same area at Dompim Pepesa.

Inspector Anaman said on June 16, around 2:30 am, while the complainant was asleep in her room, Collins attacked her with a knife to demand money but said she did not have money and this annoyed the accused.

He then opted to rape her and warned her not to scream else he would stab her to death with the knife.

The Prosecutor said the complainant became frightened and she feigned touching Arhin to indicate that she was prepared to obey him.

Inspector Anaman said the complainant quietly pushed the knife which was beside him away and tried to leave the room but the accused person got hold of her and they struggled.

She said for fear of been caught by the community, he hurriedly left the room to his house which was some meters away from the complainant’s house.

The complainant identified Arhin before he left and one Charles Quaicoe, who was also hunting for snails in a garden closer to the accused person’s house saw him speeding to his room after the incident.

A report was made to the police and the accused person was arrested.

He denied the offense in his cautioned statement.
