Court Orders Release of "Asabee's" Wife's Passport

An Accra Circuit Court has released the passport of wife of former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, after her lawyer filed a review of the bail conditions.

The court on July 2nd confiscated the passport of Mrs Zuleika Asamoah-Boateng, and later admitted her to a bail GH¢50,000 with two sureties to be justified.

At its hearing on Wednesday the court, presided over by Justice Adwoa Colman, granted the wish of the defendant's lawyer on condition that Mrs. Asamoah-Boateng returns to Ghana by the 24th of next month.

The order is to enable Mrs Asamoah-Boateng to travel to Italy.

It is not clear whether the BNI will allow Mr Asamoah-Boateng to travel with his family to Italy.

Mrs Asamoah-Boateng is in court facing charges of assaulting a public officer, using abusive language against a public officer and snatching a passport from a public officer.

This follows her alleged overreaction towards officials of the BNI at the Kotoka International Airport when she and her husband were due to board a British Airways flight bound for the US but were accosted by the BNI operatives.

Mrs Asamoah Boateng is reported to have snatched back her passport from the officers - who had earlier taken custody of it - and hurled insults at them.

She reappears in court on August 26.
