Couple gunned down by unknown assailants at Twedie

Twedie, a sprawling community in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District, has been thrown into grief and shock following the gunning down of a couple by unknown assassins.

Simms Adu Gyamfi, 48, a businessman, and his wife, Madam Afia Kyerewaa, 45, were returning home at about 2230 hours on Tuesday, when the gunmen struck just in front of the gate to their house.

The man died instantly, and the woman later at the Komfo Anokye teaching Hospital (KATH), where she had been rushed for treatment.

There is strong suspicion that the crime might be linked to a long standing chieftaincy dispute as the deceased businessman was a likely choice to occupy a vacant stool.

He was said to have received death threats but ignored them.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Simon Denteh, the Asokwa District Crime Officer, who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said no arrest has been made.

He said the deceased businessman had dropped the wife to park the vehicle in a nearby house, when he was hit by bullets in the stomach and the left shoulder then the attackers also opened a deep cut on his right hand, as he dropped dead behind the wheels of his unregistered saloon car.

He said the wife was also shot in the back of the head and other parts of the body.

ASP Denteh said four spent shells were recovered from the crime scene.
