Coup days are over

The Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, yesterday told the Homecomers Summit here that Ghana's democracy has reached a point of no return and that the days of military adventurism are past.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Summit, which ended yesterday at the International Conference Centre in Accra, the Vice-President said the way forward is to make Ghana a stable and fertile ground for investment.

Vice-President Aliu reminded the homecomers that there was the urgent need for them to put their resources and skills towards the development of the nation because even though the country has abundant resources, majority still live in deprivation and abject poverty.

"Our country is in distress, all is not well. Majority of Ghanaians still live in poverty in spite of the abundant resources. This millennium is for Africa and Ghana must set the pace", he said.

On his part, the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Jake Obsetsebi Lamptey, said Ghana must be developed by Ghanaians, urging that there is the need to join hands towards the development of the nation.

He promised that the NPP government will ensure that money will find Ghana a safe place to be and also a place where the rule of law reigns supreme.

The minister disclosed that President John Agyekum Kufuor has already written to the Electoral Commission to see to the possibility of extending this franchise to Ghanaians living abroad to vote.

Jake Obetsebi Lamptey stressed that the government is committed to strengthening the bond of unity with its citizens abroad adding that Ghanaian expatriates are needed to help us do away with mediocrity…
