Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has praised the Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) for its contribution to the development of Ewe communities in Ghana, Benin, and Togo.

Speaking at the 32nd Annual CEANA Convention in Dallas, United States, Gabriel Tanko lauded the association for its investment in education in these communities, which he indicated is transforming the lives of children and their families.

He also commended the group for its efforts to unite Ewes abroad for the development of their home communities.

'Every home needs a Tanko, every party a Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple'

“Permit me to begin by acknowledging the tireless efforts of CEANA’s leadership over the years. Your commitment to uniting Ewes across North America and channelling that unity into meaningful development projects back home has been nothing short of remarkable. Year after year, you have proven that CEANA is more than an association. It is a family, it is a lifeline, and it is a vision for a better future for our people, by making health a priority.

“The records speak for themselves. From building schools to providing scholarships for needy students, from renovating clinics to drilling boreholes for safe drinking water, your footprint is visible across villages and towns in Ghana, Togo, and Benin. These interventions are not merely acts of charity; they are investments in human dignity. A child who studies under a roof CEANA built, a mother who delivers safely in a clinic you supported, or a student who gets a chance at education through your scholarship — each of these stories is a testimony to the life-changing impact of your work,” he said.

Touching on the theme for the 2025 CEANA Convention — ‘Our Health, Our Wealth’ — the Council of State member said that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of prioritising health.

“We live in an age where we are constantly reminded that health is the foundation of everything else. A nation may have resources, industries, and infrastructure, but without healthy citizens, that wealth cannot be sustained. The COVID-19 pandemic brought this reality into sharp focus for all of us. It showed us that wealth without health is fleeting,” he said.

CEANA also presented the Council of State member with a citation for his contributions to the body.
