Corruption under Mahama is unprecedented - AFAG Guru

Director of Operations of the pro-NPP pressure group, the Alliance for Accountable Governance says taking the current corruption perception in the country into consideration, the level of the canker under the Mahama administration is copious and unsurpassed.

Davies Opoku claims the socio-economic hardship in the country is so telling that members of the ruling party have joined in the crusade for better living conditions, with the exception of those surrounding President Mahama.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s “Ghana Decides” programme, Davies Opoku, who is also part of the Communication Team for Kwabena Agyapong’s General Secretary bid, said it is not surprising to hear NDC stalwarts like Dr. Tony Aidoo and Hon. Alban Bagbin openly voice out their concern.

The Head of Policy, Evaluation and Oversight Unit at the Presidency virtually accused the Mahama administration of starving him of the needed funds to run his office, crying out that his outfit has been rendered almost redundant and dormant since the death of President John Atta Mills.

A frustrated Dr. Tony Aidoo told the media that problems such as non-payment of salaries for his staff for the last six months were not issues that he would normally put out in the public domain.

Nadowli-Kaleo MP, also openly poured out his reservations about the president’s apparent lack of commitment to fight corruption and address other issues of topical concern in the country.

Addressing these issues, the AFAG member stated that “if President Mahama is committed and prepared to fighting corruption in the country, he would have made good use of Dr. Tony Aidoo’s office, to monitor and evaluate the activities of government ministers and appointees and then advice accordingly.”

He wondered why the President has not given any direction as to how he will handle issues of corruption highlighted in the GYEEDA, SADA and Subah Infosolutions Limited saga.

“……surprisingly, less than 15 months, the corruption cases which have arisen under President Mahama’s reign are more than that of Ex-President Rawlings, Kufuor and the late Mills put together. Every month, government goes-a-borrowing but till date, no one can account for (these monies)…and so Hon. Alban Bagbin has every right to complain about the way the President is handling the affairs of the country,” he said.
