Corruption is sinking Ghana - Professor Kwaku Azar bemoans

Renowned Lawyer and Professor of Accounting, Stephen Kwaku Asare ( Kwaku Azar) has lamented the wanton corruption in Ghana, stating that,”…corruption will sink this country if we do not wake up from our deep sleep to fight it with all our might.”

The renowned scholar and activist’s appeal seems to be a reaction to Manasseh Azure Awuni’s documentary entitled “Contracts for Sale” which reveals how the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has allegedly set up a company, Talent Discovery Limited (TDL) solely to secure and sell government contracts to the highest bidder.

The public intellectual made his appeal for a more spirited fight against corruption in a Facebook book post sighted by MyNewsGh.com that has attracted many likes, comments and shares.

The PPA Scandal

The embattled CEO of the Public Procurement Authority, Adjenim Boateng Adjei has been suspended over the investigative documentary by Manasseh Azure Awuni that uncovered that the he has a company that wins government contracts and then sells than to the highest bidder

After his suspension, there are growing calls by civil society organisations for the Board of the PPA to resign. But the Board has indicated that they are do “not influence tender processes conducted in accordance with Act 663”, effectively seeking to absolve themselves of any blame.

Meanwhile President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo referred the allegations involving conflict of interest to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and those relating to potential acts of corruption to the Office of Special Prosecutor, for their prompt action.

Mr. Martin Amidu has since set a date for his maiden meeting with the suspended PPA boss.
