Coronavirus: Osafo Maafo debunks rumours, shows up in parliament

Senior Minister, Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo Senior Minister, Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo

The Senior Minister, Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo has been spotted in parliament after what seemed to be a brief break from public view.

On Friday, Ghanaweb.com in an article reported how some Ghanaians including members of the opposition National Democratic Congress have been asking of the whereabouts of the Senior Minister since little or nothing had been seen or heard of him as government battles against COVID-19.

In a reaction to the publication, the office of the Senior Minister through a press release said Mr Osafo Marfo in his capacity as a Member of the Economic Management Team, has been actively involved in government activities to shield the nation against the effects of COVID-19 on the economy of Ghana.

The release further debunked rumours that the minister may have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus after joining the president’s entourage on a working visit to five European countries last month.

On Monday when Ken Ofori-Atta made a presentation on the impact of the pandemic on Ghana’s economy, the Senior Minister clad in a black suit with a nose mask covering his nose could be seen sitting right behind the finance minister.

Mr. Ofori-Atta during his presentation told parliament that the impact of COVID-19 will cost Ghana’s economy a whopping GHC11.4 billion which is 2.9% share of the nations GDP.
