Ghana has started the local production of nose masks as part of efforts to stem the spread of Coronavirus.

This is to augment the pieces imported into the country.

This was made known by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Aboagye, at a media briefing on Friday.

He said the move is to encourage Ghanaians to wear masks in order to save them from unnecessarily contracting the disease.

Dr Aboagye disclosed that a little over 300 health workers have been contracted to carry out the enhanced testing.

About 6,000 persons have been traced so far and samples taken for tests, he noted.

But he stressed that to curb the spread of coronavirus, more nose masks have to be made available.

“We want to encourage all people to wear masks.”

He called on individuals and organisations to also help in procuring these needed items to complement government’s effort.

He said more of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) have been procured for health workers but what is needed most, at this point in time, are the nose masks and gloves.
