Coronavirus: 109 markets in the Northern Region to be disinfected

Government has announced that 109 markets in the Northern Region will be disinfected on Thursday April 2, 2020.

The directive from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is to enhance the conditions of hygiene in markets across the country to curb the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in collaboration with market leaders are to close all markets in their jurisdiction on Thursday, 2nd April 2019 for disinfection to enhance conditions of hygiene in order to contain and prevent the spread of the virus,” a statement by the Minister for Local Government, Hajia Alima Mahama read.

The Northern Regional Coordinating Council has been tasked to coordinate and ensure compliance with the directive by MMDAs in the region.

Meanwhile, the markets would be opened on Friday, April 3, 2020 for business.
